The Prince George Cougars losing skid reached eight games after dropping a 5-2 decision to the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Tigers scored three times in the third period, the last into an empty net. The Cougars continue on the road as they play tonight in Lethbridge and Sunday in Kootenay. PG has dropped into a three way tie with Vancouver and Kamloops for 3rd place in the BC Division. Vancouver beat Lethbridge 3-2 and Kamloops got by Victoria 4-3 in overtime.

–Jeremiah Luedtke led the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 4-3 victory over the Surrey Eagles before 1,231 fans at the PG Coliseum. Luedtke scored the final two goals of the game at 12:58 and 15:16 of the third period and added two assists. The 22-19-0-4 Spruce Kings finished 4-1 on a five game homestand. They resume action Thursday in Langley.

–The Major Midget Cariboo Cougars play the Valley West Hawks today and Sunday in Richmond.

–Patti Knezevic of Prince George beat Sarah Wark of Victoria 7-4 in the A Event final at the Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship in Maple Ridge. Knezevic advances to the 1 vs 2 game tonight at 7 as the top seed in the page playoff. The winner of that game advances to the Provincial final Sunday at 1pm. The BC champion qualifies for the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts Feb 14-22 in Moose Jaw.

–The UNBC men’s basketball team hit 12 three-pointers in a 92-85 win over the Mount Royal Cougars. In the Canada West women’s game, Mount Royal outscored the UNBC Lady Timberwolves 69-46. The same teams meet again tonight in Calgary.

–Megan Heinicke of PG was the second of four Canadians in the World Cup Biathlon women’s 7.5-K sprint in Italy. The 26-year-old Heinicke finished 40th in a field of 95.

–The 28th annual PG ICEMAN will go on Sunday. With the skating portion canceled, the competition will feature running, skiing and swimming events.
