The Prince George Cougars suffered their 10th consecutive loss, and third in as many days, as they fell 7-4 to
the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook. The Ice took control with four goals in the second period. Earlier, the Cougars dropped a 7-4 decision (Saturday) in Lethbridge (despite outshooting the Hurricanes 56-32, including 28-7 in the third period). PG was also were beaten 5-2 (Friday) in Medicine Hat. In a six day span, the Cougars dropped five games by a combined score of 29-12. The (20-29-1-1) Cats are tied with Vancouver and Kamloops for 3rd in the BC Division and the last playoff spot in the Western Conference, although both the Giants and Blazers have two games in hand. The Cougars host Seattle Friday and Saturday.

–Patti Knezevic and her Prince George team of 3rd Kristen Fewster, 2nd Jen Rusnell and lead Rhonda Camozzi will represent BC at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts Feb 14-22 in Moose Jaw. Knezevic captured the
Provincial women’s curling title in Maple Ridge following a 5-3 win over Sarah Wark of Victoria in an extra end.

–Alexander Nemethy and Kelsey Knoll are the 28th annual Prince George Iceman champions. Nemethy posted the best overall time of 1:35:17, (3 ½ minutes faster than Michael Buchanan in the men’s race). Knoll topped the women’s division in 1:53:37. A total of 47 individuals and 102 relay teams participated in the skiing, running and swim events.

–Megan Heinicke of Prince George led the Canadian women’s biathlon (4×6 kilometre) relay team to a 10th place finish at a World Cup race in Anthloz, Italy. Earlier, on the same course, the 26-year-old Heinicke was 29th in the World Cup women’s 10-kilometre pursuit and 40th out of 95 in the 7.5-K sprint.

–A split for the Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars against the Valley West Hawks in Richmond. The Cariboo Cats are 26-5-1 after a 3-2 loss (Saturday) followed by a 2-1 victory (Sunday).

–The (22-19-0-4) Prince George Spruce Kings went 4-1 on a five game home-stand following that 4-3 triumph (Friday) over the last place Surrey Eagles before 1,231 fans at the Coliseum. The Spruce Kings, with just 13 regular season games left (4 at home and 9 on the road) play three on the road this week: Thursday in Langley, Friday in Chilliwack and Saturday in Surrey before hosting Coquitlam Feb 6th and 7th.

–The UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team is 7-7 and holding down the third and final playoff spot in the Canada West Explorer Division after winning a pair of games in Calgary against the Mount Royal Cougars. Scores were 76-64 (Saturday) and 92-85 (Friday). In women’s play, The Lady Timberwolves are 2-12 after a split against the Cougars. UNBC won 63-56 (Saturday) after Mount Royal took the opener 69-46 (Friday). The Timberwolves host MacEwan Friday and Saturday.

–Two members of the Prince George Judo Club had top three results at the Saskatchewan Open Judo Tournament in Regina. Branden Edwards captured Gold in the U16 boys -60 kg and Bronze in U18.
Kristen Yawney earned Silver in U21 girls -70 kg.
