There’s just six games remaining for the UNBC Timberwolves in the Canada West basketball regular season. The Timberwolves host MacEwan Friday at 6 and 8pm and Saturday at 5 and 7. The UNBC men are 7-7, holding down the third and final playoff spot in the Explorer Division, one game ahead of Mount Royal and two games in front of MacEwan. The Lady Timberwolves are 2-12 and out of contention.

–The Patti Knezevic Prince George rink has just 2 1/2 weeks to get ready for the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts Feb 14-22 in Moose Jaw. Knezevic qualified as the BC representative after winning the Provincials in Maple Ridge.

–The (20-29-1-1) Prince George Cougars, riding a 10-game losing streak, play their next four on home ice starting Friday and Saturday with a doubleheader against the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Cougars are tied with Vancouver and Kamloops for 3rd in the BC Division, although the Giants and Blazers have two games in hand.

–The (22-19-0-4) Prince George Spruce Kings play Thursday in Langley Friday in Chilliwack and Saturday in Surrey. The Spruce Kings are 3rd in the BCHL Mainland Division, seven points behind Langley, eight back of Chilliwack and seven ahead of 4th place Coquitlam.

–The (26-5-1) Cariboo Cougars host the (4-22-4) Kootenay Ice Saturday at 7:15pm and Sunday at 8:30am at Kin 1. Saturday’s game will feature Jameson Jones Night with proceeds going to BC Children’s Hospital.

–47 individuals and 102 relay teams participated in the 28th annual Prince George Iceman. Athletes ranged in age from 10 to 78. Alex Nemethy posted the best overall time while Kelsey Knoll topped the women’s division.

–PG’s Megan Heinicke was part of the Canadian women’s biathlon 4x6k relay team that placed 10th at a World Cup race in Anthloz, Italy. Earlier, on the same course, Heinicke was 29th in the World Cup women’s 10-kilometre pursuit and 40th out of 95 in the 7.5-K sprint.
