A young injured worker is speaking out about workplace safety in Prince George.
Nick Perry was 19 years old when 1200 kilograms of loose fibre fell on him, leaving him an incomplete paraplegic.
Now he’s touring the province on behalf of Worksafe to talk to students thinking about a future in the trades about work place safety.
“I think that in this day and age, both employees and employers know how important communication is,” he says. “If we can open those doors, I hope we can be a safer work society.”
Perry says students find his approach genuine.
“They think that I give a ‘real deal’ type of approach to presenting,” he says. “I always tell students that I never deem myself as a professional public speaker, I was just put into this through my workplace accident and because I’m passionate and that shows through in my presentation style.”
Perry will be speaking to DP Todd Secondary students Wednesday and visit Duchess Park Secondary students Thursday and Friday.
