–The Prince George Cougars losing streak reached 12 games after a 3-0 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds before 2,621 fans at CN Centre. Taran Kozun stopped 20 shots for the shutout, including just nine over the first two periods. The last place Cougars are a point behind Vancouver and four back of 3rd place Kamloops in the BC Division. Kamloops won 3-2 (Saturday) in a shootout in Vancouver. The (20-31-1-1) Cougars host Edmonton Friday and Saturday.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings scored twice in each of the first two periods and held on for a 4-3 victory over the last place Surrey Eagles. The Spruce Kings picked up three out of a possible six points on their three game road trip against Mainland Division opposition. PG lost 4-3 in overtime (Friday) in Chilliwack after starting the trip with a 3-2 loss (Thursday) in Langley. The Spruce Kings host Coquitlam Friday and Saturday.

–The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars whipped the Kootenay Ice 7-1 on Jameson Jones night at Kin 1. The game raised about $1,500 for BC Children’s Hospital.

–The Northern Cougars female midget AAA hockey team tied the Fraser Valley Phantom 1-1 (Saturday) a day after the Cougars beat the Phantom 3-2.

–The UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to four with a 78-67 triumph over the MacEwan Griffins (Saturday) before 375 fans at the Northern Sport Centre. The UNBC men sit 9-7 as they also outscored MacEwan in the opener (Friday) 81-65. In women’s play, the Griffins won both over the Lady Timberwolves 75-62 (Saturday) and 77-63 (Friday). The UNBC women are 2-14. The Timberwolves host Fraser Valley Friday and Saturday.

–Duchess Park won the Cougar Classic senior boys basketball tournament at College Heights following a 93-73 victory in the final over Smithers. College Heights ended up third after a 67-63 win over D.P. Todd.
