The Prince George Spruce Kings are in Langley where they meet the Rivermen tonight and Wednesday in the first two games of the BCHL first round series. The two teams were
separated by just three points in the regular season. The series shifts back to the PG Coliseum Friday and Saturday.

–The Prince George Cougars put their three game win streak on the line when they host the Central Division leading Calgary Hitmen Wednesday. The Cougars trio of WHL player of the week, Jansen Harkins, Zach Pochiro and Chase Witala have a combined for 44 points in the last eight games.

–Former PG Cougar Brett Connolly will play his first game with the Boston Bruins Thursday against the visiting Calgary Flames. The 22-year-old Connolly was sent from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Boston Bruins for a pair of second round draft picks.

–Another ex Cougar, defenceman Eric Brewer has joined the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 35-year-old Brewer, who is a PG Cougars minority owner, was sent from the Anaheim Ducks along with a 5th round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenceman Korbinian Holzer.

–The regular season champion Cariboo Cougars will host the 8th place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in a best of 3 BCMML quarter-final series. Games at Kin 1 will go Friday at 5pm, Saturday at 1pm and Sunday, if necessary, at 10am.

–Other first round major midget playoff match-ups this weekend have #7 South Island Royals at #2 Vancouver NW Giants, #6 Valley West Hawks at #3 Vancouver NE Chiefs and #5 Greater Vancouver Canadians at #4 Okanagan Rockets.

–Biathlete Matthew Neumann of Prince George was 43rd overall the first day and 34th the second day at the IBU 10-kilometre sprint in Canmore. The IBU Cup, which is a feeder series to the World Cup, continues on Wednesday.

–The Bud Burbee Prince George rink, which includes, third Dan Gaboury, second Mark Carswell and lead Jim Burbee
begin play today at the BC Masters (60+) Curling Championship in Nanaimo.

–The Prince George Masters Ball Hockey League playoffs began with Cap-abilities outscoring Alison’s/Predators 7-4 and 6-5 in overtime in the first two games of the best of five semi-final series.
