Brandon Magee scored a pair of third period goals, including the winner with 4:13 left, to give the Victoria Royals a 5-4 triumph over the Prince George Cougars and a 2-0 lead in the best of seven first round series.

Magee has five goals and one assist in the two games. He notched a second period hat trick in the Victoria 5-3 victory in the opener.

The 20-year-old Magee has 11 goals and five assists in just eight games against P.G. this season.

Tate Olson scored twice on the power play for the Cougars, who outshot the Royals 34-25.

Games three and four will be played at CN Centre Wednesday and Thursday.

–Five other WHL playoff games Saturday: Kelowna blanked Tri-City for the second straight night 3-0 to grab a 2-0 series lead.

Spokane whipped Everett 6-2 to tie that Conference quarter-final 1-1.

Seattle edge Portland 4-3 in the opener of that best of seven.

In the Eastern Conference: Regina nipped Swift Current 3-2 to take a 2-0 lead and Medicine Hat doubled Red Deer 2-1 in the opener of that series.

–PGSS-2 won the grade 8 boys basketball tournament at College Heights outscoring DP Todd-2 in the final 46-38.
DP Todd-1 finished third in the eight team tourney.
