UNBC to honour former president and First Nations chief

The University of Northern BC has made its picks for this year’s honorary degrees.

Xeni Gwet’in Chief Roger William and former UNBC President Dr. Charles Jago will receive honorary degrees during this spring’s convocation ceremony.

Jago says he’s delighted and pleased to be recognized in this way.

“I’ve had a long association with the university almost from the beginning of its existence,” says Jago, “and so this means a lot to me.”

Chief William is being honoured for his efforts in the Aboriginal land title case the Supreme Court of B-C ruled on in 1990.

William has also been active with the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training and Education Council and being a liaison between the RCMP and First Nation groups.
