BCTA happy with federal decision

The BC Trucking Association is giving the thumbs up to a recent decision on electronic logging devices.

Transport Canada has announced it will allow the devices in commercial vehicles and new trucks.

BCTA CEO Louise Yako says these machines track truckers’ hours.

“Whether they are driving or fuelling or stopping to rest,” says Yako, “and so for many drivers that’s done today by paper and pencil using a paper log book.”

Yako says there are a portion of drivers who do go over the amount of time they are on the road and this can be hazardous.

She says this ruling should give drivers more assurance that a trucker is more rested or not going over the amount of hours they are on the road.
