Home taxes to increase 2.5%

Home owners can expect a 2.5% tax increase this year.

Last night’s Committee of the Whole meeting saw city staff present council with three options of how to collect this year’s tax levy.

Director of Finance Kris Dalio says the committee has decided to set the representative house increase to 2.5%.

“So essentially what that means is we’ve done our best to make your tax bill be as close to be as close to 2.5% as we can,” says Dalio, “but we don’t control the assessed value of people’s homes.”

Business, Utility, Major Industry and Farm tax rates have also increase by 1.07%.

Council will now approve this recommendation at next week’s regular council meeting.
