The Quesnel Crossfire scored the winning goal with 57 seconds left in the game in an 11-10 victory over Northland/Nissan Assault in Prince George Senior Lacrosse. It was the first game of the season for both teams.
Play in the five-team league resumes Monday at 8pm at the Coliseum with Assault against the Cowboy Ranch Stylers.
–Prince George Inner City boxer Kenny Lally is 2-0 and guaranteed a medal at the Cheo Aponte Cup tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lally beat an opponent from the host city by unanimous decision in the 56-kilogram division quarter-finals. His earlier victory was against a fighter from the Bahamas.
The 25-year-old Lally, a six-time national champion, advances to the semi-finals today (Friday) against an opponent from the Dominican Republic. He is one of 10 Canadian boxers in the tournament.
–Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars scored the first goal and added an assist for Canada in a 5-3 triumph over Sweden in the quarter-finals at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Switzerland.
The Canadian team advances to the semis on Saturday on the United States. The other semi has Finland against Switzerland. Harkins has two goals and two assists in five tournament games.
–Oliver Bjorkstrand of the Portland Winterhawks and Tim McGauley of the Brandon Wheat Kings have have been selected as the Western and Eastern Conference nominees, respectively, for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the 2014-15 WHL Player of the Year.

A product of Wilcox, SK, McGauley scored 42 goals and 63 assists for 105 points along with a plus-43 rating while playing in all 72 games.
