RCMP Victim Service hands out Crime Awareness Awards

A manager with the Elizabeth Fry Society has been honoured for her work with young parents.
Family Centre Coordinator Valerie Jordan has been recognized as a “Youth Service Provider that goes Above and Beyond” as part of National Victims of Crime Awareness Week.
Jordan works with the young parent program that assists youth who are facing adult situations.
She says her role can be best described as being an aunt to the people she works with.
“My role has kind of morphed over the years to be just that soft place to land,” says Jordan, “where I offer suggestions, within a harm reduction model, and support them where they are at, often I become that kind of “auntie” role is what tends to happen.”
Jordan, along with four other individuals, were honoured with awards for their work with helping youth overcome victimization.
