McHappy Day helping families in Prince George

McDonalds is celebrating McHappy Day across Canada.

A dollar from every Big Mac, Happy Meal or coffee goes to Ronald McDonald House.

Pam Saulters says Ronald McDonald house was a massive help for their whole family when their 5 year old daughter Audrey was fighting cancer last year.

“It gave us a home, but it also gave us a family. There were other families that we lived with, some of them short term, some of them were there for months. It gave us a family when we had to leave so much of our own family here in Prince George.”

Saulters said that far reaching communities like Prince George benefit the most from the house because they are the ones that need a place to stay so badly while their children get long term treatment in Vancouver.

She added that it also provided an amazing sense of normalcy for Audrey.

“It gave her other kids to play with, other little bald kids running around. She wasn’t the odd man out; it gave her other kids that had to get pokes, other kids that had to have these terrible things done to them. As much as it kind of became a norm and that’s a terrible scary thing, it gave her someone else that knew what she was going through.”

5 year old Audrey is now in remission, but still has a long road ahead of her with many more visits to the Ronald McDonald house in her future until she reaches adulthood.
