Off-road vehicle registration delayed

Mandatory off road vehicle registration is being delayed until the fall.

The original date of June 1st is being pushed back so ICBC can iron out details for a system that will require all snow mobiles, dirt bikes and ATV’s to be plated and registered through ICBC.

The 48 dollar fee for registration will cover the cost of creating a database that will cut down on theft. The new deadline is November 1st.

Owners will also have an option of a registration “sticker” instead of a plate.

BC is one of the last provinces to create such a program and as a result has become a dumping ground for stolen off road vehicles over the past decade.

ICBC says 20k out of the estimated 200k off road vehicles have already registered
