New Consortium will study impacts of resource development

A new forum discussing the impacts of resource development in the North will be kick starting in the Fall.

As the Cumulative and Community Impacts Research Consortium, or CCIRC, is slowly coming together.

Chris Buse is the Project lead, and explained what it will be addressing:

“So what it means to the community really is in the context of things like the interest in liquefied natural gas industry, increased exploration of fracturing, hydraulic fracturing in the North East in the Peace region, new mines and mine proposals and the resurgence of the mountain pine beetle, things like Site C”

Buse says all these things come together and no one is looking to the cumulative effects of repeated land use.

The CCIRC will look to raise community awareness, which includes residents, local businesses and industries, and will look at the long term impacts of these developments-

Buse says they hope to start their engagement in October.
