The Oshawa Generals are Memorial Cup champions for the 5th time and first since 1990. 17-year-old rookie Anthony Cirelli cashed in a rebound for his second goal of the game at 1:28 of overtime to give the Generals a 2-1 triumph over the Kelowna Rockets.

Ken Appleby made 37 saves as Kelowna outshot Oshawa 38-26. It was the 8th time in the 97-year history of the
tournament that the final game was determined in overtime.

The Generals went 4-0 at the Memorial Cup, winning each game by a goal.

The 2016 Memorial Cup will be played in Red Deer.

–The Quesnel Crossfire edged the winless Cowboy Ranch Stylers 13-12 in Prince George Senior Lacrosse (Saturday in Quesnel). The 3rd place Crossfire improved to 4-4 while the Stylers fell to 0-8.

–The top two teams in Prince George Senior Lacrosse go head to head tonight at 8. The 7-0 Westwood Pub Devils battle the BX Pub Bandits at Kin 1.

In their previous meeting this season the Devils whipped the Bandits 16-7 on May 6th.

–The Duchess Park Condors finished 15th at the 16-team BC Girls Double A Soccer Championship in Vancouver.

Duchess won its final game 2-0 over Smithers to finish with an overall record of 1-3-1.

–PG’s Alyx Treasure tied for 1st place in the women’s high jump at the NCAA West preliminaries in Austin, Texas.

Competing for K-State, Treasure had a leap of 1.82 metres to qualify for the NCAA outdoor Nationals June 10-13 in Eugene, Oregon.
