Prince George getting “bugged” out

Prince George residents might be a little bug eyed these days with the number of insects they are seeing.

So far this year many have been complaining about mosquitoes and tent caterpillars in the city.

But UNBC Biology Professor Lisa Poirier says when it comes to mosquitoes, how bad they are depends on where you are.

“But anywhere there is a water source there is potential for a lot of mosquitoes,” says Poirier, “and its been a nice warm spring this year, lots of flood waters along the rivers, and that increase mosquito activity.”

Poirier says when it comes to tent caterpillars there is a slight decline in the number of tent caterpillars in the city.

She while some people have seen an increase in the number of caterpillars, others are seeing the amount drop.
