Changes to liquor procedures good news for local wineries and breweries

The BC Government announced yesterday local breweries and wineries can now offer liquor they don’t produce.

Doug Bell with the Northern Lights Estate Winery in Prince George says it’s a game changer for it’s business.

“We love the opportunity to be able to offer products from other businesses that is going to allow us to showcase what Prince George does best and what the northern area does best in many venues that it may not be used with in today’s business.”

Bell adds all products from the winery will be viewed in a manner that was not possible previously.

“We really think this will enable our products to be showcased in other areas that wouldn’t be done before.”

The facilities must have a licensed lounge or special event area in order to sell the products.

Northern Lights Estate is expected to have it’s licensed lounge area built in 2016 and will offer beers from the Barkerville Brewing Company, Valemont Brewing and Pacific Western Brewing.

Distilleries and Cideries also qualify.

Customers throwing a wedding or another event are no longer required to apply for a Special Occasion License.

Previously, a winery could only sell glasses of vino it produced on site and a brewery could only let you buy a glass of it’s own beer.
