Falling loonie not the end of the world for PG

The low Canadian dollar may not be all bad news here in Prince George.

UNBC Economics Professor, Dr. Paul Bowles says one industry stands to benefit from the falling loonie.

“Low dollar is good for exporters so the major forestry companies will be pleased to see a lower dollar as will other exporters.”

Bowles adds while oil prices have fallen, gas prices have not followed suit.

“Although oil prices have come down a lot, at the pumps they are not coming down quite so much and that’s because oil is priced in US dollars.”

The Canadian dollar traded in at 76.12 cents US today which is it’s lowest level since September of 2004.
