Workers Compensation Amendment Act passed by BC Government

The final sections of the Workers Compensation Amendment Act has been given the green light by the BC government.

Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, Shirley Bond says Bill 9 will give Worksafe BC more authority in certain situations.

“Includes being able to issue a stop work order when workers safety is at risk, and also for court injunctions if we have members in an industry that continue to operate with unsafe practices we now have the ability for Worksafe to look at the injunction to stop that behaviour.”

The Bill was passed on Tuesday and follows several recommendations made in July of 2014 following the 2012 sawmill tragedies in Prince George and Burns Lake.
