The City of Prince George will be asking the Ministry of Transportation to install a solid centre divider on Highway 97 between the John Hart Bridge and Hoferkamp Road.
“Council has talked about that particular stretch of road given the fatal accident that was there a few months ago and whether or not we should take a look at all stretches of highway in our area.” Mayor Lyn Hall said “That’s the one area that doesn’t have a median barrier on it.”
Hall pointed to stretches of Highway 16 and Highway 97 South where the installation of centre barriers reduced accidents.
He says he is hoping the Ministry of Transportation can have the divider installed before winter.
“I think it will be a fairly simple request, if council approves this we will move on to making the request to Minister Stone and he will go from there. We are confident that something will happen along there.”
Council will vote on the motion for the request on Monday.
