The NDP finally has a candidate in the Prince George – Peace River – Northern Rockies.
Kathi Dickie, Councillor and Education Director with the Fort Nelson First Nation, will be acclaimed in Fort St John this evening.
“I have to admit, I am nervous. But I am looking forward to it.” Dickie said “I have to get to Prince George, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge so people can see me and know who I am and ask me questions.”
She says access to healthcare is at the top of her list.
“In the North we struggle with our health services. We can’t have babies born in Fort Nelson and our elders, they can’t spend their final years here and have to leave their communities homes and families.”
She also pointed to economic troubles in Fort Nelson since the price of natural gas fell, saying the Peace needs to diversify it’s economy. She also wants sustainable and responsible resource development.
“My grandparents didn’t have the right to vote. So I really strongly encourage people; you have a right to vote, you have a right to a say. You can contribute to our democracy, so it’s really important that people come out and vote.
Dickie is running up against Conservative Bob Zimmer, Liberal Matt Shaw, Libertarian Todd Keller and Green Party candidate Elizabeth Biggar.
