PG Sports–Weekend Wrap Oct 2-4

It was not a banner weekend for most of the high profile Prince George based sports teams. The PG Cougars went 0-1, the Spruce Kings ended up 0-2, the Cariboo Cougars split a pair, the Northern Capitals midget female rep hockey team had a 2-0-1 record, the UNBC women’s soccer team ended up with a pair of ties and the UNBC men’s soccer team lost both of its games. Details below:

WHL—–(Cougars lose first road test Saturday in Seattle)

Seattle Thunderbirds 4 Prince George Cougars 1

–The 1-1 Thunderbirds scored twice in the first and tallied two power play goals in the third. Jesse Gabrielle tallied shorthanded for 1-2 Cougars. Gabrielle has three of the six goals for the Cats this season. Ty Edmonds made 33 saves as Seattle outshot P.G. 37-28.

–The PG Cougars host Tri-City Friday and Saturday to begin a string of six straight games at CN Centre.

–The Vees struck for three unanswered goals in a four minute span midway through the 2nd period before 907 fans at the Coliseum.

–The 1-6-1 Spruce Kings are 0-4 in front of the hometown fans. They have been outscored 23-5 in those four games.

Cowichan Valley Capitals 5 PG Spruce Kings 2 Friday

–The Capitals scored twice in the 2nd and three more in the third to erase a 1-0 deficit before 975 fans in PG.

–The PG Spruce Kings play their next 6 on the road starting Friday in Trail. They also visit Vernon Saturday and Salmon Arm Sunday.
