Unemployment in Prince George continues to rise

More people are out of work in Prince George compared to the same time last year.

Vincent Ferrao with Stats Canada says the city’s unemployment rate has risen almost two and a half percent.

“We have an unemployment rate of 7.3 percent for September and that compares to an unemployment rate of 4.9 percent at the same time last year.”

48,200 people are employed in Prince George compared to over 52 thousand last September.

However, the provincial numbers were a different story.

“BC had a good month overall with an increase of 2.1 percent, unfortunately the province’s unemployment rate remains at 6.3 percent despite the 12 thousand new jobs.”

The national jobless rate now sits at 7.1 percent.
