Bike To Work Week gains Momentum

The Prince George Cycling Club is celebrating another successful Bike To Work Week this year.

This years event had more bikes on the road than ever before and logged more Kilometres than any previous Bike to Work Week.

“It reduces emissions, we’re trying to encourage as many people as we can to ride to work” said Laura Sapergia with the PG Cycling Club. “There’s no parking issues when you have a bicycle now that we have bike racks downtown. It’s healthy for people to ride and it reduces congestion on the highways and the streets.”

147 New Riders took part in Bike to Work week this year. The clubs next initiative aims to make cycling in the city safer for everyone.

“We’re going to be working actively over the next year to get parking out of the bike lanes” said Sapergia. “That’s going to be an education component for drivers and cyclists”

Parking in bike lanes has been an ongoing issue in the city for some time; City Council is currently awaiting a report from Administration on how best to resolve the issue.
