PG Literacy appoints New Outreach Coordinator

The Prince George Literacy Advisory Committee has hired a new Outreach Coordinator.

Long-time committee member Carolyn Tiefensee has taken over the role after the previous Literacy Outreach Coordinator Helen Domshy retired.

Her first initiative in the new role will be to update the Committee’s outreach approach.

“We’re looking to build a Facebook page, we’re doing some new brochures, new business cards, we’re hoping to start a Twitter account and make us a little more socially appropriate for the times” said Tiefensee.

She says promoting literacy benefits everyone in the community.

“Literacy is so important for every individual within our city.” said Tiefensee. “Literacy skills really help a person navigate within their life. So it’s not just about reading and writing, and that’s part of my job is building awareness.”

She adds that people who are more comfortable with their literacy skills are more likely to engage in the community.
