HR MacMillan portable planetarium in Prince George tomorrow

Vancouver’s HR MacMillan Space Centre is making a visit to Prince George hosting a free family fun night tomorrow.

HR MacMillan Education Outreach Coordinator Trish Pattison says they’ve been touring classrooms in Prince George all month. “We’ve been bringing our portable planetarium, it’s a large inflatable dome that projects the night time stars inside. We can fit a whole class, fits about 30 people.”

Pattison says the night will focus on four topics they call STEM; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

She says the outreach tour has been a hit in Prince George and Mackenzie schools.

“We’ve been welcomed with open arms, and there really is a desire to learn not only about the stars, but things like what kind of robotics does it take to get to Mars and how is that going to lead future astronauts and the development of computers and robotics.”

Exploration Place and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will also be in attendance.

The family fun night is for any kids that want to attend again, or any children that did not have a chance to attend at their school.

The night runs from 6:30-9:30pm at Immaculate Conception School.
