Council exploring lighting options for Tyner

The City of Prince George might not be finished with the the Tyner Boulevard facelift just yet.

With BC Hydro swapping out its poles in the area, the City will talk about leasing lights from the company until a permanent solution can be found.

General Manager of Engineering and Public Works Dave Dyer says the City was already looking at lighting options for the stretch.

“Before we knew about the potential of this coming together with the lease lights, we were looking at a design for next year to do City-owned streetlights along the edge of the road.”

the City had budgeted little more than $75,000 to start the process of designing permanent lighting, but the report to council recommends putting that on hold.

“Because of the enormous cost, and the fact that next we’re we’d only be designing the permanent lights, this could be a better route to go.”

City Council will discuss lease lighting, and the long-standing wish to light University Trail at Monday’s Council Meeting.

“The project along the trail we expect to carry out, but it would have to be something we probably wouldn’t do until either funding was available, or until we four-land Tyner Boulevard, which is a number of years away yet.”
