PG school board takes time to recognize Pearce

A moment of silence was held at the start of last night’s School Board meeting to acknowledge the passing of local teacher, coach, and education advocate Matt Pearce.

Board Chair Tony Cable remembered the 48-year-old as both a sports and teaching hero, who’s influence “made a difference.”

Local Teachers Association First Vice-President, Joanne Hapke (pr. hap-key), says Pearce was her union mentor and friend.

She says his desire to see an accessible and adequately-funded education system will be part of his legacy…

“Matt leaves behind many well-trained local union activists. We will carry on where he left off and ensure all students get the education they deserve and entitled too.”

Hapke took the opportunity to reiterate the association’s opposition to FSA testing – saying there’s been no new funding to help low-achieving schools.
