Black History month to be celebrated in Prince George

IT’S Black History Month in Prince George for the 19th straight year thanks to CNC and the local African Heritage Society.

Instructor, Cliff Raphael says a musical event is planned for the end of the month.

“On the 27th, the last Saturday of the month we have an Evening of Song which has gone on over the years and here we want to highlight some music from the black tradition, blue and jazz come out of that.”

It begins at 7pm from the First Baptist Church and admission is $10 for adults while children 12 and under are free.

The main event of the festivities is set for February 20th which will include a dance plus guest speakers.

Cost is $15 for adults and can be picked up at the CNC Book-store or Books and Company.

A free soccer tournament will also be held next weekend on the 13th and 14th at UNBC.

Black History Month officially kicks off today (Sun) with a special Family Day Event from the CNC Cafeteria beginning at 2 pm.
