Zimmer tables pro-LNG petition

Prince George Peace River MP Bob Zimmer is calling on the federal government to approve the Pacific Northwest LNG project.

Today he presented a petition in support of LNG containing several hundred signatures to the House of Commons.

But Zimmer tells My PG Now that this isn’t the first correspondence the Prime Minister has received on the topic.

“Another big group of letters, just calling on the government to approve LNG in BC. It’s something that we need and it’s good for our environment along with a bunch of other reason to do it. It’s good to have such strong community support to hopefully push it over the top.”

He added that the region is in desperate need of economic activity, and LNG is currently the best hope.

“The jobs right now are a concern right now, with a slowdown in the oil markets it’s hurting our region extremely and I think what needs to be understood, this thing isn’t just good jobs for BC and Alberta, although it would be, but it’s good for jobs across Canada.”

The Pacific Northwest LNG project has been in the environmental assessment process for over three years, long enough in Zimmer’s eyes.

Another online petition in support of the industry began circulating yesterday
