UPDATE: Suspects in custody in connection to VLA shooting

The Prince George RCMP have provided an update on a shooting that took place just after midnight in a VLA parking lot.

Police responded to the parking lot on 17th Ave and Upland and found a lone male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim is currently in hospital recovering.

In response, RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says local law enforcement raided a home east of town in Blackburn early this afternoon.

“We went in with the assistance of an emergency response team and placed some persons in custody, arrested them. But we do believe there’s a chance other people are involved in this.”

One adult male and two females were arrested at the home on the 1300 block of Blackburn Road. At about 3:00 PM, officers located and arrested another adult male at a residence in College Heights.

Douglass says they gave the Prince George School District warning of their raid, and SD57 kept the children inside at nearby Blackburn Elementary as a precaution.

He says it’s still far too early to speculate as to the motive behind the shooting, but that they do not believe it to be due to any sort of “gang conflict”

** an earlier version of the story used the phrase ‘lock down’ to describe the measures Blackburn Elementary took. A full lock down was never called, students were simply kept indoors.
