New life saving rescue app

A new tool has been added to the list of equipment for search and rescuers out in the field.

Released online May 2, BCSARA is an app loaded with valuable information including offline maps and other information pertinent to saving lives and making the rescue effort more efficient.

The second of its kind, Regional Director for BC Search and Rescue Chris Mushamanski says it’s an adequate replacement for a paper version.

“If you have a changed policy it becomes expensive and onerous to try to send out those documents and then have it printed and available to people. The app is such an easy and cost effective way to go.”

The app can also be used completely offline with regular updates made while the device and app has internet access.

“As any changes or policies to the guidelines come out, they will be refreshed on the app and the member will get a notice saying the latest guideline is out and they can change it in seconds,” says Mushamanski.

Plans are in the works for later in the month to release a calculator for rescue ropes. The app can be found by searching BCSARA.
