Matvichuk to coach the PG Cougars?

The Gregg Drinnan Taking Note column in Kamloops is reporting that the Prince George Cougars may hire Richard Matvichuk as their next head coach.

Matvichuk is head coach and director of hockey operations of the ECHL’s Missouri Mavericks.

The Mavericks won the regular season title with a 52-15-5 record and Matvichuk was named coach of the year.

The report says that Cougars GM Todd Harkins flew to Kansas City to meet with the 43-year-old Matvichuk, who played 796 games in the NHL.

Harkins has confirmed he interviewed Matvichuk in K.C. this month.

The Cougars have been looking for a new coach since parting ways with Mark Holick last month.

Holick is reportedly on the short list for the Vancouver Giants head coaching job and apoarently is also considering European options.
