Legebokoff appeal hearing begins Wednesday in Vancouver

An appeal hearing for the Cody Legebokoff multiple homicide conviction is set to start tomorrow in Vancouver.

Legebokoff was convicted of four counts of first-degree murder for the killings of four Prince George area women and was sentenced to life without parole in September 2014.

Doug Leslie is the father of Legebokoff’s youngest victim, 15-year-old Loren Leslie. He’s on his way to Vancouver right now.

“I feel my presence there is very important, they’ve got to know that we are strongly opposed to any of this.”

He added that he will be dealing with this week one day at a time.

“I live every day, and it is what it is. We have to deal with it as it comes to us. How do you prepare for that?”

An appeal hearing is not a new trial. There will be no new witnesses called or evidence presented, but three appeal court judges will determine if the original trial was carried out in a fair manner.

Legebokoff’s lawyers are expected to question the fairness of the 2014 proceedings and issues surrounding the decision to hold them in Prince George.
