Work underway on new entrance to Foothills Landfill

Work on the Foothills Landfill entrance relocation project is underway.

Motorists may have noticed trees near the north east of facility have already been cleared to make way for the change. 466 cubic metres of timbre has been removed.

“The sightline change is quite different,” says Petra Wildauer, General Manager of Environmental Services “With the clearing, we can move forward with preparation for the construction of the new entrance and a new compost pad.”

The Foothills Landfill was originally constructed in 1976 and experiences traffic bottlenecks at it’s existing entrance on a regular basis. The new entrance will aim to fix that by moving 500 metres north.

The project will cost $7.4 million and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017.
