Dallas has a new “Star” & Capitals make a gain

A couple of former Prince George Cougars have found a new NHL team to play for.

P.G. Cougars part-owner Dan Hamhuis of Smithers has signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars for a total of $7.5 million.

Hamhuis will be entering his 13th season in the league after spending the last six years with the Vancouver Canucks and the six previous seasons with the Nashville Predators.

In 872 career NHL games, the 33-year-old Hamhuis has scored 55 goals and 248 assists to go along with 565 penalty minutes.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old forward Brett Connolly has signed a one year deal with the Washington Capitals.

Connolly had 25 points (nine goals) in 71 games last season with the Boston Bruins.

The former P.G. minor hockey product spent three seasons with the Cougars, and in his last year with Prince George notched 46 goals in 59 games in 2010-11.
