Prince George enjoys a dip in EI recipients

1700 residents in Prince George collected Employment Insurance in May according to Stats Canada.

That’s down from April’s total of 1740.

Analyst, Louharia Yssad says the provincial numbers paint a different picture. “The total number of beneficiaries in BC was 51,770 in May which is an increase of 1.9% or 900 more people collecting benefits.”

The number of claims in British Columbia also went down 9.2% in the past year which is a decrease of approximately 2600 hundred people.

77,000 people in Alberta are now collecting EI in due to the wildfire in Fort McMurray.

They saw the biggest increase across Canada with 8400 more people collecting benefits in May.

Only Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia recorded decreases in the number of people on pogge.
