We’re now into week two of Pokemon Go in Canada. Players out and about have benefitted local businesses, but some residents would like to see the map reconsidered.
Over the weekend, Kym Gouchie was visiting her father’s grave in the Lheidli T’enneh burial ground when she saw groups of people playing the game.
A nearby monument is a “Pokestop,” which offers players Pokemon eggs and Poke balls. Gouchie finds its location disrespectful and hopes it’s moved elsewhere.
“I wasn’t angry at anybody. It’s the company itself and they need to reassess where they have their game. They need to reassess it and they need to make changes to some of these locations.”
She says this needs to be addressed soon before the game grows even more popular and doesn’t want the traditional grounds becoming a hub
“I walked away feeling kind of shaken, to be honest. Whoever made this game obviously didn’t do their homework and if they did and they knowingly put a Pokestop in our burial site, it’s morally wrong.”
Gouchie says she isn’t against the game. She has three kids playing it and is happy that they’re off the couch.
She’s filed a complaint with the designing company, Niantic, and hopes that Pokestop will be moved elsewhere.
