Organizers are cancelling this year’s Northern Women’s Festival.
The inaugural event was scheduled for this weekend but coordinator Laura Lawrence says ticket sales were just too low, and organizers couldn’t afford to pay out-of-pocket.
“We were so close to our goal, so we’re going to give a little bit of time to lay low and probably reassemble and then reassess things and look at where we’re going to go from there,” she says.
She also hopes this encourages others to support local events.
“When you want to see great things happen in your community, you have to be apart of it. Hopefully, it’ll raise a little bit of awareness and get people out to these festivals and community events.”
She’s upset but she’s looking on the bright side. Lawrence says she and the Board now have a year to organize next year’s event and will hold more fundraisers soon.
