Upcoming week dedicated to Baby Boomers

Members from Community Futures Fraser-Fort George are working with the City to make September 25th to October 1st “Aging with Attitude” week.

Committee Chair Rita Wiebe knows many “baby boomers” still want to be healthy and active. So far, the week already consists of things like planned hikes, events with local businesses, and “Boomer Bucks” dining discounts.

She’s also hoping the City and Community Futures can work together to plan the week.

“If the City had anything they were thinking of doing so far as age-friendly or targeting the boomer population that perhaps they could plan it during that time,” she says.

General Manager Susan Stearns says boomers are still a huge part of the city.

“The boomer population, on average, contributes almost $3.2 million just to Prince George alone, every year so it’s a population base that really is ready to stay active and they have the ability to contribute back to the Province,” she says.

Both Wiebe and Stearns hopes that “Aging with Attitude” week can one day become a Province-wide initiative.
