The Vancouver offices of Imperial Metals, the company behind the Mount Polley Mine, was the site of chaos today as protesters crashed the premises.
The Secwepemc Women Warriors Society held the protest to mark the 2 year anniversary of the mine’s tailings pond breach. The same group also blockaded access to the mine site last week.
Four protesters were arrested for allegedly pushing staff members and blocking Vancouver PD from accessing the office. The whole thing, including the confrontation with the Vancouver PD, was streamed on Facebook Live. (see below)
Once extracted from the office, the protesters continued in front of the company’s building in a lawful manner. About 15-20 people particpated.
