Sidearm Nation outlasts Senators

It what looks to be a preview of Saturday’s bronze medal game on Saturday, both Sidearm Nation, and the Thurston County Senators put on an offensive display on Thursday at Citizen Field.

Sidearm propelled themselves to an 11-8 victory over the Senators to improve to 3-2 at the 2016 Ramada World Baseball Challenge.

After an even start to the game, Sidearm would wake up the bats in the 4th inning courtesy of a three-run homer by Aaron Dunsmore followed by a solo moon shot by Jason Louis to take an 8-2 lead.

Thurston County responded with three of their own in the top of the 5th thanks to an RBI single from D’Aundray Van Slyke followed by Alex Bryner’s 2 RBI single later in the rally.

Sidearm Nation put the game out of reach in the bottom of the 7th after Ryan Thrasher crushed an offering out of the park for the Calgary-based club’s 2nd three-run homer of the game.

Designated Hitter, Aaron Dunsmore believes the team is coming together off the field.

“It was a group of guys that were thrown together and after a while when you spend enough time together you kind of get comfortable with each other and it carries onto the field.”

Omar Maldonado III would bring in the last three runs for the Senators.

Thurston County Right Fielder, D’Aundray Van Slyke says they can still be dangerous if they get off to a better start. “I think if we pick up the intensity early on and everybody does what they can do we’re a really strong team.”

Both teams finish round-robin play on Friday with the Senators playing the Roswell Invaders at 4Pm followed by Japan taking on Sidearm Nation at 8PM.
