World Baseball Challenge to return in 2018

Prince George will see the return of the World Baseball Challenge in 2018.

Tournament Chair, Rick Pattie says they’re pleased with the player age group but want to return to their international roots in two years.

“The players at the collegiate level are basically in their prime and the skill level is high so the ball is really good, the only other thing we want to see is more international teams which was a tough go. That is our goal for 2018.”

When asked by MYPGNOW if adding a team from Prince George is being considered Pattie had this to say.

“While I can’t give away all our secrets but we do have something like that in the works and will reveal it when the time is right.”

The board will sit down this fall and examine what worked and what didn’t as they begin preparations for the next tournament.

All five teams from this year’s field have all expressed interest in coming back.

Japan captured the gold medal on Saturday defeating the Roswell Invaders 5-4.

Canadian Sidearm Nation captured bronze by beating the Thurston County Senators 10-6.
