Two local sections of Highway 97 will soon be safer for motorists thanks to a $700,000 investment by the province.
“These projects will be welcome news to residents and businesses,” says Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris. “They will make local commuters’ use of Highway 97 a safer, quicker option.”
The on and off ramps at Massey Drive are currently under construction. Crews have been extending the acceleration and deceleration lanes to make merging safer. The project is valued at $400,000 and is scheduled for completion by the end of the month.
The intersection at 5th Avenue is next. A 50 meter long deceleration lane will be added to improve right turns and ease congestion. Work should begin there shortly.
Both projects are part of BC on the Move the government’s 10 year transportation improvement program. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure plans to spend nearly $2.7 billion on in the next three years.
