Downtown night bazaar draws big crowds

The first ever downtown night market was a big success.

Chilly weather didn’t stop hundreds from turning out to check out more than 30 vendors who set up in the parking lot of the Black Donkey Cafe.

Cafe owner Chris Blackier says it takes a whole community to support an event like this, “keep coming down, keep supporting local and really get the foot traffic downtown. Show the community that if we stay in numbers it’s only going to get better here on out as long as we continue take this catalyst and implement the changes ourselves.”

He says they are just trying to create another reason for people to come downtown and answer a big question often asked on Friday and Saturday nights.

“What do you want to do tonight? All I hear is nothing – there is nothing to do except for liquor venues and pubs and bars. So we are really trying to change that so all ages can come down and be a part of the community.”

Blackier may host another night market in September and later in the fall depending the weather, but says the event will definitely be back in full force next spring. He says he will be trying to expand onto the courthouse steps where the Wilson Square Market used to be.
