McBride shines in Team Black victory

While there is no guarantee Nick McBride will be the Prince George Cougars starter this season he is certainly going to make things interesting.

McBride was perfect on 15 saves as Team Black outscored Team White 8-5 in the annual inter-squad game on Monday.

Black jumped out to a 4-0 after 20 minutes thanks to a flurry of goals from Shane Collins, Jesse Gabrielle, Josh Curtis and Edge Lambert.

Both teams changed goalies in the second as Niklas Hoem replaced McBride and Connor Dochuk relieved Tavin Grant.

Team White enjoyed a 5 goal surge in the middle frame from Aaron Boyd (2), Brad Morrison (2) and Jansen Harkins to cut the lead to 6-5 after 40 minutes.

Kolby Johnson and Colby McAuley replied for Team Black in the second.

In the third, Ethan O’Rourke would light the lamp to make it 7-5 followed by an insurance marker from Curtis.

Ty Edmonds also enjoyed a shutout period in the third for Team Black.

Prince George begins pre-season action against the Calgary Hitmen and Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday and Saturday in Red Deer.
