Culture Days is running all weekend in Prince George, featuring free arts and culture events all over the city.
One of those is a free preview of the first two acts of Theatre Northwest’s upcoming production.
Local playwright Lauren Brotman says they gathering input from the public, and letting them into one of her favourite parts of the process.
“We are workshopping this play publicly, so that the audience is invited into what we find to be a very magical part of the process which is the creation period. So we are going to be continuingly workshopping the new writings that we come up with.”
Brotman says they are holding two 20 minute readings at the PG Public Library on Friday at 4pm and Saturday at 1:30pm. They chose the Library because they wanted to get out into the community and make the free showing as accessible as possible.
She says the play focuses of two cosmopolitan women who move to Prince George, “to find peace, and find some sort of space and breath and connection to nature.”
“But along the way, they meet different characters who are really based on our experiences here in Prince George.”
‘Painting the Streets’ will be a finished product next year, but Brotman says the public can expect more chances to peek behind the curtain throughout the creative process.
Two Rivers Art Gallery, Exploration Place and Huble Homestead are also holding free events all weekend for Culture Days.
