Bulldogs left at the pound by Spruce Kings

Carson Schamerhorn suffered a bad case of sunburn on Friday night as the Prince George Spruce Kings kicked off a seven game home stand with an 8-0 romp over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at the RMCA.

The game was actually close during the first twenty minutes when Schamerhorn held Prince George to a single goal on 21 Spruce King shots with Jarod Hovde getting the only marker.

Prince George opened the flood gates late in the second period when Connor Russell doubled the advantage at 14:44 capitalizing on a Travis Schneider feed.

Tyler Anderson scored 24 seconds later for his 1st of the season and as a Spruce King while Tanner Campbell expanded the edge to 4-0 at 18:05.

Alberni Valley continued to let down its net minder giving up another four-spot in the third period with Russell and Anderson picking up their second of the contest while Schneider and Brett Mennear also lit the lamp.

MYPGNOW caught up with Anderson after the game and talked about the team’s success against clubs not named the Penticton Vees or Wenatchee Wild.

“I think it is just working as hard as we can working on small little details because the goals against they are not huge mistakes like not getting the puck out, not pinning guys in the corner.”

As for his time in Prince George, Anderson says his experience has been a positive one.

“I have really enjoyed it so far as I have some friends on the team like Mennear and Tanner Campbell and I enjoy being a leader and showing guys you have to work hard when your out there and you have to make sacrifices to win.”

Prince George outshot the Bulldogs 53-17 and also went 2 for 8 on the power-play.

Schamerhorn made 45 saves in the loss for Alberni Valley.

Stefan Wornig pitched a 17-save shutout for the Spruce Kings.
