Adamyk’s acrobatics spoil soild effort by Spruce Kings

The Prince George Spruce Kings put up another dominant performance at the RMCA on Sunday posting 51 shots in the process.

The only thing they didn’t do was solve Powell River Kings goalie Mitch Adamyk.

Adamyk pitched a shutout and Josh Coblenz scored the lone goal as the visitors limped away with a 1-0 victory.

Spruce Kings goalie Stefan Wornig bobbled a glove save late in the first period resulting in the goal for Powell River.

Prince George peppered the Adamyk throughout all three periods with their best chances coming off the sticks of Cavin Tilsley and Tyler Anderson with one going wide and the other clinging off the inside of the post.

Spruce Kings Assistant Coach, Ryan Howse says the team needs to do a better job of burying their chances.

“It almost felt like we were a little snake bit, the chances were there and so were the shots but things didn’t go our way tonight and something we have to work on is burying our chances when we attempt to shoot and score.”

Prince George has three divisional games next week starting on Thursday against the Chilliwack Chiefs and Howse believes if they come out like they did over the weekend, he likes their chances.

“I honestly think if we play the way we have been the last couple of nights we will be fine. We had a hard week pf practice last week and we’ll have another one coming up and if we play like we did tonight (Sunday) I like our chances against any team.”

MYPGNOW caught up with Adamyk after the game and says the formula behind his 51-save performance was simple.

“I prepared well mentally and was kind of pissed off from getting the hook the night before and I just wanted to stop all of them.”

“Playing in other teams barns you are not going to get the chance to light them up so you have to get goals any way you can whether they are greasy by battling in the corners or standing in front of the net.”

Prince George is 4-8-0-1 on the season and currently sits 4th in the Mainland Division.

Powell River improves to 9-7-0-0 on the campaign and is in 2nd place in the Island Division.
